Are adapters to change the lug bolt pattern reliable, like will they break. Are they a good idea or a bad idea.

dont use wheel spacers/adapters unless absolutely necessary or unless they're carved from billet stock with integrated studs. Not only are you asking from trouble if you use cheap parts, but wheel spacers tend to wear out hubs, bearings, and tires faster.
