How tough is it to install an add-a-leaf? Also what will it do to the ride quality? I usually have an unloaded truck, but maybe once a month I haul heavy loads. One of the loads had the rear axle almost resting ont eh rubber bumpers, but I removed half of it and took 2 trips. I was thinking of doing a torsion twist deal also. What does that do to ride?

Whenever you do get the add-a-leafs and the torsion twist done, tell me how it went. I need to do the same sometime soon.

Hi guys add-a-leaf are an EZ job the hardest part is getting the center bolt that holds the spring together apart but a good pair of vise-grips and a socket set is all you need, it should take about an hour to do the job, the add-a-leafs will change the ride a lot it will be more like a truck and the same with doing the torsion twist, The add-a-leafs are great if your going to haul heavy loads but if you are trying to raise the back end of your truck just get some Warrior Shackles or after market springs they will ride better and give more lift.

Thx Wade

Who makes an add-a-leaf for a 95???

Explorer Pro Comp

Parts:
#13120 for the Pair of single add-a-leafs
#13135 for the Pair of two leafs

The 13120 cost around $27 and the #13135 cost around $100 from what I understand.

Thanks NoBoundaries, I looked on their website for it, but I didn't see them. I just saw entire lifts. Did I miss them?? Or will I have to call them to find out about them??

96 Explorer want to go taller

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer 2wd and want to get the maximum lift I can. I dont realy mind rough rides so I am open for any suggestions.

THNX

Tim, I looked a little harder and found the part numbers you posted on Explorer Pro Comp's website. But they are listed as part of a lift system for 98-00 Explorers amd Rangers. It's a spindle kit with add-a-leafs for the rear. Are you sure that these add-a-leafs fit a 95, or a 96 in Phat-G's case????

Go here Stephen:

Pick Explorer Pro Comp as the manufacturer and enter the part number:

EXP-13120
EXP-13135

i put on the long leaf add-a-leaf set on my '95.it took me an evening to do it.wasn't too bad.i cranked up the torsion bars up front to even it out,and added a set of 265/75r15's,about 3 years ago.it made the truck look and ride great.

Thanks for the Reply! If the leaf springs are the same do you think you could modify the Explorer Pro Comp 98-2001 lift kit to work on a 1996?

Thnx

Sorry for the late response, I missed this thread. As far as the 13135 goes, it may have to be special ordered, but you should be able to get it. I believe someone on the site did and Explorer Pro Comp told me it was available. I got the 13120 add-a-leafs before I knew that the 13135 was available. Even then, I think I'd still just get the 13120 just because of the price, then upgrade my shackles if I decide I want more lift. These add-a-leafs will work for any year Explorer. All Explorers have the same rear suspension, except of course the 2002's. Let me know if you have anymore questions, I keep a better eye out from now on!

Sweet! You can't beat $27 for a pair of add-a-leafs. I'm gonna have to consider this.

Will I need new U-bolts or are the stock ones long enough??

Geo95xlt, is your truck 2 or 4 wheel drive?? And what is the spring code on your torsion bars. Mine are code F (the softest, I think) and I'm concerned that if I put an add-a-leaf in and I crank my weak bars, I won't get the same amount of lift in the front as I will on the rear. Any pics of your truck after the twist and add-a-leafs???

Your u-bolts will be fine. Also, don't bother trying to unscrew the leaf center bolt, just cut it off. You have to use new ones anyway. The new center bolt is included with the kit. In truth, it's a pretty simple job. It took me an hour and a half at the most. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get it done in under an hour. You'll make the job faster by being organized and knowing what size bolts you're dealing with before hand. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I'm familiar with add-a-leaf installs, so I think I'll be able to do this one alright if I choose to do it.

Do you know anything about my bars as I mentioned before??

Given the fact that you have 2wd, you probably do have weaker bars. I actually didn't have to twist my bars at all because for some reason, my truck already sat high in the front. In truth, the add-a-leaf's will give you some lift and if you decide to go with them, you may only have to twist your bars a little bit. Your benefit with having a 2wd is that you can twist them as much as you want. With thw 4wd Explorers, we can only twist to a certain put or else our CV's are at too great an angle and effects our axle. Given the range you have to adjust your bars, I can't see a problem. Of course, I'm not speaking from experience and I can't say with complete certainty, but I really can't see a big problem. Worst case is that you rear will sit a little higher, I kind of like this dynamic look, plus your ride is level with a load. Keep us posted pal.

my 95 is a 2wd also.doing the leafs brought the truck up about 2 in.i thought it would throw out the front end ,but all it needed was a $30 alighnment and that was it. adding them really helped the truck out on corners,it doesnt roll nearly as much as it used to.
