Hello. I have a 1999 Explorer that did not come with the towing package. I have a brake controller that I've mounted under the dash, and am wondering what wire I connect to the "Stoplight" wire from the brake controller? The controller has four wires, Power, Ground, Brake Out, and Stoplight.

Which wire under the dash do I tap in for the "stoplight" input? I'm assuming it's in the bundle going to the brake pedal switch, but want to know which one is right. Thanks.

The diagram I have shows only two wires for the brake pedal switch, light green/red which is always 12V after the respective interior fuse, and the output to the brake lights which is light green, but it shows that light green splitting into two more light green and a dark green.

Any of these should work, just not the light green/red. If all else were equal then I'd cut the dark green because that hatch, center 3rd brake light seems the less important of the three. I mean I would reconnect it but some people might read this in the future and do a dodgy job wiring it all up, twist and electrical tape instead of crimp or solder and heatshrink.

Even the towing package was only 4 wires at the rear and did not have the cabin hookup to run a brake controller. I think 2001+ that had the wiring.

I got the kit from etrailer to run the rest of the breakers + wring to hookup the 7 pin connect w/ controller in the cabin. At the moment just ran the 4 pin adapter to it since I did have the towing package to at least run the signals/brake lights.
