Recently i bought a parts truck and being low on cash i cant afford another trans cooler... but would it be possible to hook up the stock trans cooler from the parts truck and the stock cooler that is on my Xlt now? as for mounthing i can find a spot and make mounting brackets easy but before i went through that i thought i'd ask if anyone has does this or any reason why or why not to do it? and if anyone thinks it will work how exactly should i go about doing it properly... thanks in advance guys!

Biggest reason not to is you don't know how clean the old cooler is. They do make a flush kit for trans coolers, but they don't work well on the stacked plate style which is what the external cooler on the X is.

is there any real way to somewhat test and get an idea? being that the stock one is still on my x (should i consider changing that too since its stock) and i know the trans fluid (this trans is going into my lifted X) that came out of the parts truck was very very clean (and the lines) anythign i can look for as in to see if maybe its alright or a brief somewhat test to determine it its really dirty or semi clean? i hope this is making sense to you

Not that I know of.. most trans shops say to just replace the cooler. This last shop is the first one that gave me a flush stuff to run since I was going to keep the cooler (it was only 2 weeks old). The stuff he gave me was in a pressureized (sp?) can.

i guess i shall have to run to a local trans shop and see if they have anything they feel would sufficiently flush the system... just like most of us im trying to work on a very tight budget for my X LOL

I'll see if I can find the old can of it.. maybe that will help...

that would be awesome...so figuratively speaking the cooler is mostly clean? how much extra cooling would you think i'd get and how much if any would it increase my fluid capacity?

I found it on the 'net. its called Kooler Kleen from Lube Gard

As for how much cooler, it is just going to double your external cooler's cooling capacity.. As for how much more fluid.. they don't hold that much.. I'm "guessing" maybe < 1/2 quart.

im sure it doesnt work quite like this but you would think being double the cooling capacity it should help keep it twice as cool...of course things never work that route...but figuratively speaking it was clean enough to use would it help be a temp fix until i can get another, better trans cooler?
