i recently put in a new tranny in my 91 x and rebuilt the motor after about 1000 miles on the new tranny. now with the freshly rebuilt motor in, it wont shift until you get it around 4000 rpm in all gears. i think it is my kick down cable because my 89 bronco did the same thing; but i dont know how to adjust the one on my x. any one who knows what to do or how to adjust it?

I do not think your "kick down" cable is at fault here. This sounds more like a valve body leak or other leak. If you have the tools do a pressure check. I'm betting your line pressure is WAY low and it takes high rpm's to get it up to where it can do anything. You'll hear from others way smarter than me, but that is my 2 cents worth.

Happy Exploring

I dunno if this will fix your problem but to adjust the kick down cable, open yer hood and look for a grey circle button (the size of a quarter) on the firewall about a foot above where the gas pedals would be on the opposite side. Push the button in then push your gas pedal in untill you hear a 'click.' That fixed my shifting problem in my old X when I did the throttle cable mod. Hope that helps...
