I've removed the bellhousing from the trans so I could get to it from the back and try to hammer/press it out. Unfortunately the rear is too narrow for me to get it pressed out, and the front of the seal is glued on with some seriously powerful adhesive. My punches have punched holes all over the seal and it's torn up pretty well, now, but the seal will still not budge. Does anyone have any tips for this thing? I can take a torch to it but I'm afraid of heating up the steel/aluminum(?) too much...or if there's a good chemical for getting this glue/sealant dissolved I'd like to know. Thanks , folks

NM, I took a regular framing hammer and pried like hell and it finally popped

I was gonna say, do not use heat!!! Glad you got it out
When installing a new FPS on the a4ld make sure you really really inspect the input shaft for any ridges or wear pattern.
If you dropped the trans due to a leaky FPS and are replacing just the seal keep your fingers crossed...the A4LD eats these seals
Good idea to use some anaerobic sealant on the outside lip of the new seal and make sure to use some vaseline or assembly lube on the input shaft so the new seal is not installed dry
Most installers will also "stake" the new FPS in place...this means with a chisel or punch making a series of indents around the outside edge of the seal to keep it in place on the front pump....like I said a4ld are known to develop FPS issues

Thanks for the good advice. I've got a big tub of Assemblee Lube to add around the seal and shaft. Hopefully that will suffice. I am replacing just the seal, and did notice the staking that was done during its last rebuild, so I'll try to do that to this one.
