Advice on buying a used 2dr, 5 speed

Nah- nothing is more relaxing than driving the Dan Ryan during a crisp fall rush hour. :D

Here are a couple I found in the DFW area. Might be a little pricey.

Ford escape?

While looking for Explorers, I keep stumbling upon Ford Escapes, which would fit into the size for my daughter I'm thinking.
However, It's on a car chassis, isn't really a truck.

Are these a POS, or are they decent? Seems they hold their value better than the Explorers...

For what she would be using it for I'm sure, daily running around- either would be more than adequate. I have some friends with Escapes, and they like them fine. The older Escapes (pre-2006) have always had 5-star top safety ratings, the only NHTSA 4-star ratings were for the front passenger, and those were 4-star. If she's going to go mudding or rock crawling, then maybe not the best choice, but for anything else- not bad at all. Not quite as much room as the Ex, and a bit spartan on the interior, but still a nice vehicle.

Keeps getting pricier!

Why's it seem like the more I look at cars, the more I'm willing to spend?

A lot of the cheaper ones are pretty beat up, rusting and seem to have many pending mechanical issues. I don't need another project! I also want to know she's not driving something that will leave her stranded, or worse...

So, now I'm looking at these two tonight and/or tomorrow:

Make sure that you look at the cargo space in that Liberty, my neighbor had one and it had enough cargo space behind the seat to carry a 3-ring binder. As long as it was standing up. :)

Hey now.... :D

Actually I can agree with that. I sold my explorer sport for a Liberty and my sport had waaaaay more room in the cargo area.

Gotta love the Sport. I'll tell you this. She will never have to worry about not fitting into a parking spot. For comparison I parked my 02' Sport next to my Dad's 09' Chrysler 300. The 300 is longer then the Sport.

Does anyone own a new Explorer yet? Been 4 days... :)

No Ford, however.....

Welllll, not exactly. Was having no luck finding a decent Explorer, more scammers on Craigslist than I can count. Last one sent me a VIN supposedly for an Exp Sport, Carfax showed it to be a Nissan Sentra, currently in recycling!

So, you guys won't like this but, I've settled on a Jeep Liberty instead. Was looking at Escapes for awhile but comparing the two, the Jeep won out for me. I pick it up Friday. Man this child is lucky! I got a 73 Ford Torino as my first ride, she gets a jeep!

Anyway, thanks for all the advice here, regardless of make your tips were helpful.

So now we've got a Toyota; Mazda; Yamaha; Dodge and soon a jeep....I think we're done.

Thanks again guys.

Nothing wrong with a jeep liberty. I got mine when I sold my explorer. I love the thing! :D
