advice on buying tires

Hi guys
just need some advice here.
i live in ontario where there is lots of snow
today i was slipping and sliding on 5 inches of snow..
im driving a 2WD with old michellin LTX MS
i know i need to change them but $$ is the problem

so im left with either buying 4 used tires =$250
or buying 2 new tires and putting them in the rears for 250+

which is the best way for me to go?
and what tires do u guys recommend

If you need 4 tires, there's nothing wrong with buying used. Get yourself a good set of all season (M+S rated) tires with lots of sipes. Check out eBay and the For Sale forum here. I got a set of ice and snow tires off of eBay for my Jetta VR6 for $260 shipped. Also, get yourself a good set of chains. Nothing can replace a set of chains on the ice.

ill definetly look into the used tires
but the chains.. no one here uses chains lol
i live in the city i dont think ive ever seen chained tires here
