I have a 1996 2wd Explorer XLT with bad negative camber. I replaced the lower ball joints a few years ago and upper control arms last month. Both have zerke fittings so they should last longer than the truck. However, I still had serious negative camber after putting in the new control arms. The cams were already adjusted all the way out, so they went back in the same position.
Today I finally had time to do some more work. I checked the ride height and found it considerably low compared to the numbers I found here. After a lot of turning, I finally got it to 3.75, which is in the lower end of spec. It took a few more turns on the driver's side to get them even.
Using a level to get a rough estimate, I checked camber again and I've finally gotten the driver's side to zero, but the passenger side is still considerably negative, probably about 2 to 2.5 degrees.
The Explorer's OEM control arm bolts do have cams adjusters. They are maxed out on both sides of the vehicle. Just looking at online photos and at my vehicle, it doesn't seem like the aftermarket ones will adjust much farther, if any. Do any of you know how much more aftermarket adjusters will move the control arms compared to stock?
Yes, I will get a proper alignment when I get the camber issue taken care of.
