Im trying to find a decent aftermarket headunit. I dont really have the time to go and research one with work and everything else. Ive currently have a low end kenwood headunit that eats cds. I burned a cd 2 days ago and already its skipping in a couple of places. :( Id like to find another headunit with a builtin cd player for less than $300.

You might want to look into Panasonic. Thats what I have in my truck now. It's certainly not the greatest deck, but for the price(I paid 250 last year) Its a good deck. It gets tons of use, doesn't skip real bad, and the buttons are still tight. The only thing that I am less than satisfied with are the fact that the radio reception isn't the greatest, but I have noticed the reception was better in my car than my truck with the same deck. Also I wish the display would dim one more notch. On full bright it il like a nightlight, which is good for finding cd's.:p

You might want to check out some blaupunkt h/u i have it in my 94 x and sound is great has not skipped once in over 2 years! i play burrned cd's also. what i like is my h/u has 52x4 watts sounds great even with my factory speakers too

For $300, you have lots of quality options. A lower-end Alpine, Clarion or a Sony ES are all around that price range. You may not get all the features as a $500 unit, but for the money you are looking to spend, you can get a solid H.U.

get an alpine, there new line just came out. I have one and love it. look on ebay you can get them for cheap. If i had the money i would get a new one. I like the blue backlights better. yeah i know that a retarded reason.

FYI - Costco has a 220W Blaupunkt for $220.

Edit: Nevermind...took a closer look at this unit today and it does not seem to have many features.

Alpine

Try out the Alpine CDA-7892. ($250.00) Just installed one in my X last week and really love it. I have owned numerous decks in the past and find the Alpine to be the one to come out on top. Some specs on this unit:
- 50WX4
- HP/LP crossovers
- Time correction
- 3 pre-outs (4V) Front/Rear/Sub
- Ai changer control
- CD-R/CD-RW play back capability
- XM ready
- Media Xpander
- Motorized front panel
- removable face

Good luck!

they got very good prices. I like my Panasonic HU. Has done its job for me at a very good price! Got to love the colors as well. I have the 600u with subwoofer controls.

If you are planning on eventually building a complete system(i.e. subs and amps) then I would get an Eclipse. Otherwise it's just a matter of which one you like the looks/features of best.

That alpine unit sounds decent. I just bought a new cell phone today (LG VX1) and that set me back a decent amount and now ive got to cancel my current service with cingular (what a mistake it was to get thier service.) and theyre gonna nail me with a $170 early termination fee. Hopefully when i get paid again ill get myself a new head unit.

Anyone who has $300 to spend can get a deal, you just have to know where to look. Hit flea markets and traders fairs. Those guys like to haggle, and you can usually knock 20 or 30 buckc of an already low price.
