I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a question about what speakers to buy. I have an aftermarket Pioneer HU running throuhg the factory AMP on Factory speakers. I like the sound, but just want more volume. These X's aren't the quietest things on the road. Especially with a cut air box and flowmaster exhaust. I saw some pioneer speakers at best buy on sale that were 100W will that. Are those a good deal, and will they work well with this setup?? Any help would be greatly apprecieated

What size are you looking at? 5x7's, 5 1/4?
What location? Front doors, rear doors?
How much wattage is coming out of your HU? Because it may actually be more than the factory amp, and you may be down throttling your power going through the factory amp.

I was thinking the same thing, and buying more powerful speakers doesn't make it louder, if you want more volume, then you need more power either from your HU which might be more powerful than your factory amp, or an aftermarket amp. If you are happy with the current sound quality, then instead of buying new speakers buy a small amp to push your factory speakers and then save up and buy the speakers next.

The HU wattage is 35X4. I don't think it's downthrottling the power. My friend has the same HU and to get the same volume level as I have at 10 he must turn his volume to 20. I didn't really phrase my question right. My system get's loud enough but the speakers start to distort. Would getting 100W speakers fix that problem??? The amp is the factory amp. Thanks for responding guys.

No, new speakers will not clear up the distortion. Distortion is coming from you reaching the limits of your HU/Amp. Again, if you want more, than I recommend a bigger amp. Again that is my opinion, that and .50 will buy you a coke.

The factory amp is a piece of garbage. Get rid of it and run your speakers of your HU. There are two ways to do this, buy the bypass harness for 45 bucks, or rip it out and tape all your wires back together. Your Ex will sound much better that way. Good call with those pioneers, I have those in the back too.

I would recommend an amp bypass cable over just taping the wires together. It is a more secure connection and looks more professional. You can get them here for $17:

I have seem them other places for even cheaper.

LudusHatesReese: Ripping the wires off and taping them together is not that easy. The wire colors change from input to output of amp.

The wire designations can be found here:

EDIT: Wrong Link, Let me see if I can find it again!

Hey, Thanks morrisey for the link to the amp bypass. I'm in the middle of getting all of my parts together to install my new HU, and have been looking for the bypass harness. Hadn't found what I was looking for until your post. Thanks Again!
