Do any aftermarket radios work with the factory steering wheel volume controls? Probably not I'm guessing. The factory radio's display is shot and I almost always upgrade the stereo in every car I get. I would like to keep the factory controls functional though. Any help?

That works...Their MSRP is rather pricey! E-bay is about 1/2 of the MSRP though :-)

Kenwood

Some of the Kenwood units have a remote wire coming out of the radio. That makes it a lot easier to do and it is a cleaner Installation.

If you have a wired remote radio, which most are these days, at least the $150+ range, it's super easy. If not, you have to install a transponder thing in the line of site of the radio. I'm thinking the kleenex area would be a good location.

I'm just going to buy a newer pioneer and the kit off E-bay and call it good enough. I don't think I'm going to get the rear control conversion yet though as the kid is the only one back there now and he's only 2.

Fun Fun

Well the IR sending unit isn't always the most reliable But it works. If you get a radio with a remote wire input it works way mo better. @ least you are not cheeseballing yor install. Did your factory radio display quit working?

Yes, factory display quit. I like to upgrade anyways as you get more adjustability from an aftermarket and having pre-outs is always nice.

Bad display

The display is an easy fix!

Just take it apart undo the screw on the back that goes through the heat sink of the radio un solder unscrew the power supply to th eface plate and shore up the solder on the 2 watt resistors and mini caps. put it back together and they usually start working again. It may take a few times and don't let the soldering iron sit too long it will over heat the Pcs.

I just don't really feel like hassling with it. I may though. I may also pick up another factory stereo for next to nothing. We'll see. Thanks for the info though. I may do it if I change my mind.
