I have a 42 code flashing on the airbag light on my 98 XLT. This indicates the drivers side sensor is bad. I replaced the sensor and it still flashes. I even cleaned the mating surfaces so it has a good ground. I tested the passenger side sensor also by swapping in the new sensor but the light still flashes. All wiring at the sensors look good. I went to the stealer and paid them 40 bucks to reset the computer but that didn't work either. Still flashes a 42. When I did a search on the problem on this forum there is a lot of discussion about the connectors under the seat, however these are for 99 and newer and have something to do with the yellow connector for side airbags. Since mine is a 98 I'm not sure this applies. Not sure if 98's offered side airbags. Nevertheless, I looked under both front seats to see if I have this yellow connector but it looks like all I have are power seat connectors. The mechanic at the stealer was nice enough to print out the pinpoint tests for me to see if the computer module is bad. I'll get started on that in a couple of weeks unless you guys have some other ideas I can try first.

I was gonna say yeah look under the seats and give those connectors a jiggle but i'm not sure about 98's having the same airbag setup. I had/have the same problem occasionally. It ususally happens after I go to the carwash or when I vacum and move the seats all the way forward. Give that yellow connector a jiggle and the airbag light goes off.
