Air bag light

A couple years ago I was driving and all of a sudden my air bag light came on and it started beeping.....it has been on ever since and beeps every once in a while but the air bag never came out. Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinkin that it may be a wiring problem. Also, sometimes when i turn my blinker on it smells like something is burning and smoke comes out of my 4 way switch. The dealership said it would be very expensive to pull out my steering wheel and fix. Just wondering if other people with 99 explorers have had this problem.

Welcome to this forum! The air bag module might be defective, or you could have a sensor issue. Did you ever count the flashes or beeps from the module?

air bag error codes

my air bag light on the dash is on. In drive it is on constantly, but in park it blinks a code.

- pause - - long pause repeat

1 then 2

any help on what it means, or if you can point me where to find explanations for the codes would be great.

Sorry, I can offer no help on the air bag situation; I have had a flashing 3 7 code for quite some time that I am unable to resolve.

Now, concerning the multifunction switch, the dealer is ful;l of do do. Its a simple 15-20 minute replacement task. If it is smoking, I would to the replacement as soon as possible.
