I keep hearing about "silencers", do you know if older x's(92') has them?

This is a ranger in the pics but you get the idea. I cant think of any reason why this couldnt be applied to a explorer MAS.

Iam going to try this on my truck but Iam going to see if I can get some kind of exhaust piece to work.

That's cool. If I didn't get so much mud and water under my hood I would do it!

Anti-Matter do you know what the part number for that cone was? and how did he attach the K&N to the drain PVC pipe? i doesnt say. i think this guy lives near me so i might e-mail him to see if i can look at it. do you happen to know what city he lives in?

Hmm... that is an interesting idea, however, PVC pipe is slightly crude under the hood, and I'm wondering how it stands up to the head of underhood temperatures, as well as how it affects operation of the mass airflow sensor since it doesn't quite match up perfectly.

I don't know, I sent K&N an email asking them if they'd give me a part # on an adapter, I haven't heard back from them yet, hopefully by Monday.

I orginally found his site when he posted some of his mods at The Ranger Station. On his profile there its says he lives in Charlotte, NC.

Ive seen things like this on ebay made out of aluminum but they were going for $40 or more. Just paint it black or any other color and nobody would ever know.

I dont think that the engine heat will be enough to melt it but you could all ways make some kind of heat sheild, and sence you wont to keep hot air away from the filter, so that only cool air is drawn into the engine, a heat sheild may be a good idea.

I dont know what cone he used but once you got the drain peice you could meassure it and know for sure. To atttach it the cone would slip over the the neck of the drain and a hose clap would hold it on.

If your worried about mud and water you could make a kind of cold air box out of a flower pot or Ive even seen a mail box used. Or completly enclose the cone somehow and using some 3 or 4 in tubing have it draw air form anywere you want....maybe a snorkel type set up if you want to go that far.

Easier way to remove box

Hey guys, just to let you know a little something to get the box out a WHOLE LOT easier. I fought for an entire saturday and didn't even budge it. I was afraid like everyone else that I would break the thing.

Thank god for WD40. I sprayed the grommets from underneath the truck and let them sit for about 5 minutes. Went in and pulled the thing out with no problem what so ever. AND I FOUGHT THE &%$# THING FOR A WHOLE DAY BEFORE!!!!!

I cut the same size whole next to the air silencer (which I removed as well) and notice a huge difference in power with the K&N i have. Not to mention the sound. I love the beefier sound it makes. I have a trip this weekend to I'll let you know how the Mileage changed if any.

i pulled and pulled but couldnt get my airbox out.
the wheel well was covering the bottom so i couldnt spray wd40 down there. its pretty cramped in my engine compartment and the can didnt want to spray upside down.
i managed to get the silencer out and the cover in front of it out with a lot of pulling and grunting.
mabey this will increase the airflow a little.

I've got a '91 XLT 4.0L. you are talkin about silencers, do i have one?? i pulled off a black cover off of the intake behind my grill, is that the silencer? I want a beefier sound in my car, but no money to spend. what can i do with my stock intake?
