Would a 1999 Explorer 4 door have larger air conditioning components and more cooling capacity than a 1999 Ranger regular cab truck? I have looked at part numbers for the compressor, condenser and evaporator and I was expecting both vehicles to use the same part numbered parts. Also when rating a heating system BTUs are used as the heating units. Is AC rated in BTUs and where would someone find that information?
EDITED- The compressor and evaporator part number are the same. The condenser part number is a little different. I assume that is a 3.0/5.0 difference. Because cabin volume of an Explorer 4 door and a standard cab Ranger are quite a bit different as far as cubic feet ae concerned leads me to believe that the Ranger would get quite a bit cooler than the Explorer. I still want to know a cooling rating to make a comparison to an aftermarket add-on system.

I figured that of you smart Air Conditioning Techs would have weighed on this by now...

The whole system is basically the same besides the condenser. Only difference in the condenser is the way it mounts up, it functions the same.

Only difference on the inside ac unit is the actuators. Rangers have a cable for temperature door where explorers are all power.

My Ranger is all electric/electronic. It doesn't have a cable.
It has an electronic blend door actuator.

Ditto, the operational volume will be virtually identical. You could check the capacity of each with a 4.0 in them, that might be the only good technical comparison. The Explorer takes 30oz of freon, I wouldn't hesitate to put the same amount in a Ranger.

Also don't forget about oil if the system is opened up, or if it leaks out all of the freon. The main cause of a compressor failure is often from being low on oil, which leaks out along with freon.

@CDW6212R These questions actually apply to my Ranger/'54F100 project. I will keep the Gen II Ex/Ran AC if it is a lot better than an aftermarket system made for the '54. I'm not finding any cool ratings as in rating heat output is BTUs. Is there an AC rating as in nuber of "ice cubes" that it blows?

I can't find that info in the ford manual

@donalds Does the AC work in your Gen II and does it feel pretty good for a "station wagon" sized vehicle? When the Ranger body was intact it seemed to work well however 2 windows were broke out so I never got to feel the full cooling effect. One day a Mechanic friend of mine was looking under the hood with me while it was running and heard the AC kick in. I said it kind of sounded like a brick was thrown at it. He said it must be a little "overcharged". I wasn't surprised that he said that because I was familiar with the "Rebuilder" whom had fixed the front of it.

The AC in my 99 blows cold very cold
I did just overhaul it I made a thread

I can say the radiator fan you use will affect the AC bigtime

Ditto. The AC of the 2nd gen Explorers pushes a lot of cold air, it will be more than enough for a truck with a small cab like your F100.

Those Explorers have a wonderful radiator, it's huge. Try to fit that radiator and the V6 condenser, if possible, and then use a good flowing fan. That should take care of it well.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback. You've convinced me to keep the Ranger AC. I want a CHILLERATOR. And both of you could agree that living in the southeast USA with the high temps and then you pour the 85 to 95 % humidity to it, well it gets downright uncomfortable. I'm gonna read your AC thread and fix it on my Wife's (the white'97 with the manual tensioners). It might just need a little refrigerant. I'll be keeping both the condenser and radiator and there will be room to shift the condenser forward an inch to make room for a 2 " thick puller fan just on the condenser.
Just a week ago I installed one of these from JEGS. It's an affordable product.
SPAL 16" Fan
ADDED- @donalds @CDW6212R Thanks Don and Don
