I`ve just changed my both rear air levelling shocks, the original ones were cracked and almost dead when checked last month. In addition, the air compressor was gonig on while driving on a plane road every few minutes so I thought there must have been some kind of a leak in the system due to its age and crack. So the job was done.

Right now I have installed two Motocraft shocks, the driving is much more comfortable, the car is keeping its level but the air compressor goes on and pumps the air while on the running engine / cloesd door and P gear on, as well as when driving. Is it normal ? Should the compressor keep the level by going on every few minutes for a 5 sec ? No towing or anything like that. Or maybe that is some king of callibration after new shocks are installed and there is no reason to search for more ? What do you think ?

The air compressor shouldn't need to run if the level remains normal and there is no leaking air. If it runs rarely but briefly, that is annoying but shouldn't kill the compressor. They will be hurt if they run too much at a time.

Most likely you have some minor air leak. There are small parts in each of the air line connections, tiny o-ring and plastic collar/washer etc. Those will wear over time, and the lines themselves will develop a groove/indentation where they go into each component. Fortunately the Explorer system is simple compared to older models, and Lincolns that they began in. You should be able to quickly find the leak and look into the connection to figure out how to service the connection and/or line.
