My wife was driving our daughters 1998 Explorer. She thought she ran over something in the road. It appears that she didn't run over anything but something has gone south on the Air Ride System. The system check indicates that the Air Ride System is okay. However, I believe that the air pump has quit. Does anyone know where in the vehicle it's located and how do you test it?

If it is set up like my UK spec ex then you will have a level sensor attached to the rear axle (just to the side of the rear diff) and the underside of the body. It is connected on a couple of ball joints and can pop off if corroded. this would lead to it reading over height even when the rear end is sagging and therefore will release air and not pump up the shocks.
If you find the level sensor is attached properly then on to test the compressor. start the car, close all windows and doors. turn off ignition and get out shutting the door behind you. Then get you and a friend (unless you is fat LOL) to stand on the rear bumper within a few seconds. Now hang on there for a minute or so to see if the comp kicks in. If/when it does you will hear it as it is housed above the spare on the drivers side.
If still no compressor then you could try to reset the system.
Turn off with switch in cargo area. Then raise the rear wheels off the ground for ten mins, then lower back down and switch back on
HTH
