2001 Ford Explorer Sport
Hello everyone,

This is my first post here, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong sub forum. I recently purchased a 2001 2dr Explorer Sport, 4x4 with the 4.0 Manufacture date on the door is 05/00. It was in a small collision before I purchased it (bent CV axle), so I picked it up relatively cheap after about four months in the garage.

Now that I have received it, I put a new battery in and the alarm started chiming. So I went into the steering column, and removed a module box that reads Code Alarm, as well as another box that reads Chapman alarms. So now that I've done this, I get mixed "Theft' light readings. Sometimes it will stay solid, other times blink repeatedly, and sometimes stay completely off. No matter what, it will not start. I can hear the fuel pumps priming, but that's about it.

Any suggestions here to get it started? I've read and read and read, but to no avail. I'd love to avoid going to the dealer if at all possible, and honestly I'd rather not have an alarm. I know there are some Ford geniuses here, give me some help!

Much appreciated, if I'm leaving anything out, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Check the inertia switch. It shuts down fuel to the engine when in an accident. Also maybe clearing the codes out manually may help. not all codes reset from battery removal

^ NOT the fuel pump shut-off (inertia) switch if you hear the fuel pump.
Ok.wasnt sure if the inertia switch turned the gas off right at the pump

The Ford dealer will not be able to help you. Code Alarm and Chapman are aftermarket brands. You might visit Audio Express there and ask them for troubleshooting ideas. They sell Code Alarm, so they might be able to help.

Just from my reading, which I could be wrong, these were installed by the dealer as an option. However, I've completely disconnected these modules, I believe now it is the stock system.

Update: I reconnected the Chapman Alarms and Code Alarm modules, cut the siren wire, and messed with a few things. I managed to disarm the alarm, and get it started. Awesome!
