I've been chasing this problem for a while, and it is driving me crazy. On my '97 V8 I had disconnected the battery one day while I was doing some work, and ever since the security system and remote locks do not work. I have checked every fuse I could find, related or not, and went through connectors to make sure I hadn't unplugged anything, etc, etc.

Anybody ever have the security system just go out, just like that? I don't get the "security" light on the dash when I lock the doors, the remote no longer works, power locks work fine. Didn't find anything disconnected.

I believe the system is in the back, where the rear window washer reservoir is. Any hints on testing it, or anything else obvious to look at first?

I don't have the security system but there is a really detailed (long) diagnostic section in the 97 Service Manual. If you don't have a copy, you can look on Ebay or try to download the ISO image.

Hmm, OK, I'll look. Never did see it, but sometimes it's near impossible to find anything in there. Thanks though. I was surprised that my door locks still worked, but now it's getting annoying. ;)

In the Service Manual, pick Group 4 - Electrical. Its in Section 419-01 Anti Theft.

Thanks. I'll check it out. Probably be a while before I get to it, unfortunately. Makes these problems that much harder to fix.

With my experience as a sales person I found that on newer models when disconnecting the battery the security system would not recognise the keyfobs.
Have you tired to reprogram the fobs?

Well, no, but I've disconnected the battery hundreds of times. Plus, the door keypad doesn't work, and the "security" light doesn't go on when I lock the doors. It's dead dead dead. Thanks for the idea though.
