I am currently having a major problem.

Me thinks the alarm system is involved. Is there any way to temporarly disable the factory syste,? M Explorer is a 4 door 99 model.

The resultant problem is a no start situation.

Help help help, please.

Thanks......

Al,
Are you sure it dosen't have anything to do with the Key and the security system? Don't the 99's have that key thingy that won't allow you to start your truck if it goes bad? Just a thought.
How about some more details.

Thanks, Ray, yes it has the key system, I even used the spare key with same results.

Somehow I think the alarm system is blocling the starting.

Everything else on the truck works fine.

HELP

I hope this is not off the subject. Do the coded alarm keys ever wear out and need replacing? What is inside the key?

Gimp, there was no joy in the manual.

Any other suggestions?

Well if you have those funky special keys, it's your security system. One of my friends had the same problem(can't get the damn thing to start) The security system wouldn't let him start the truck. He towed it to the Dealer and they told him the keys were good, but the security system was bad. Fortunatly for him, it was under warrenty. Take it to the Dealer.

Not off the subject as far as I am concerned. I too wonder whats magic in the keys.

Ideas?

The keys have an integrated circuit chip embedded in them. Each one is uniquely programmed (actually there is a limit to the number, I just can't remember what it is). The key cylinder has something in it that looks for the chip. If it doesn't see the chip it won't start. If the detector in the cylinder is faulty, it won't start.

Interesting twist to the no start dilemma. The Ford dealer has been able to start my Explorer each morning for a couple days. She starts right up ( only after sitting overnight ) and runs for about an hour ( perfectly ), then she simply dies and will not restart. They even went on a road test and after a couple of mikes she died and they had to tow her back.

A new main computer has been ordered.

Any ideas guys…???????

What happens if it's not the main Computer?
I still think it's in the ignition. Just my .02

I hope this is a warranty fix.

My thoughts are with the alarm system, but, what dio I know. i couldn't fix it.

Its in the friendly hands of Ford now.

Yes its covered by my extended warranty.

Father Ford has approved a new main computerr for my truck.

Guess how it was shipped? By air. Who knows when it will arrive now.

Got a call from Ford just now that my truck is done. They replaced the main computer.

I pick it up tomorrow, we shall see if its really fixed.

Al

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, maybe Ford should keep it a couple days and make certain it is fixed before returning it to you. Don't wander to far from home in the test stage after receiving it back. Technology is great, but if I had my choice, simple is better. Let us know how you make out.

Got my truck back at 6 pm tonight. She runs fine. I drove all over town doing some errands. All appears fine.

....fingers crossed....

Finger now raised to saluter Ford as Number 1.

Yep, its dead again.

My son went out last night and while driving the truck just quit; just like before.

Ideas.....

Does is crank over but not start?? or do you get nothing when you turn the key?? If it cranks, but doesn't start, it's possible that it might be a fuel problem instead of electrical. Maybe a bad fuel pump, fpr or cutout switch??

She cranks perfectly but does not fire. The fuel pressure is fine.

Beats me.....

Loose coil pack power wire maybe?? I know when I installed a security system in my old '92, I interrupted the coil power under the hood which produces exactly the same results as you are seeing, 'cept mine was deliberate :)
