Are the bottled, over the vounter, fuel injector cleaners an alchemists dream or do they actually work. Opinions?

Further, what do you consider the best brand? How do you guys use them?

Thanks...

STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner

I have used it in both my Daytona and Explorer shortly after buying them. I noticed an increase in throttle response, better idle, and better fuel mileage. If you have never used it, I'd put it in two consecutive tanks of gas. That way you know the system is good and clean. I did get worse gas mileage on the tanks of gas with the cleaner in them, but after it was gone the mileage was better than before.

I used the Chevron Techron additive in my '87 IROC-Z some time ago and it worked great (increased MPG slightly and smoothed the engine idle). Since then I only use Chevron gas (with Techron already added) in my vehicles (unless I am on a trip and can't find a Chevron station). Haven't had any problems with the Explorer using this gas...

I agree with Pacman. I've also heard many good things about the Chevron FI cleaner. But you must get the more expensive bottle with Techron, the cheaper Chevron cleaner doesn't have Techron and is about half the cost. The Techron is the key.

P.S. I'm a chemist, but I make no claims here, just passing on info. I've heard!
