I Have A 97 5.0 Awd That Im Getting Tired Of...it Just Seems Like Such A Waste Of Fuel And Wear And Tear To Have Theese Parts Under Power All The Time...will A Part Time Case From The Same Era Bolt Up? I Can Improvise With The Wiring If I Have To..someone Must Have Tried This Before..

i know it has been done, i have seen a thread about this.

either do some searching to find it or i'm sure someone will chime in and point you in the right direction.

gas mileage wont be too big a difference..... in all honesty, it would be cheaper to sell your truck and get a 2wd model if interested in better fuel economy and not wnating awd.....

there is a brown wire mod that allows jsut the rears to work, however due to the design of the vehicle the front driveline will still spin

V8Boatbuilder did it to his Mounty. He has a great, in depth thread on the swap. Here it is

V8boatbuilder installed a new t-case IIRC, to get true 2wd.

And the brown wire mod doesn't involve AWD t-cases.

There is a brown wire that runs to the AWD transfer case, but it has nothing to do with the functioning with AWD. The AWD transfer cases are all internal, hydraulic devices. Good luck,

What Robb said. The case is mechanical, so there's no way to make just the front cut off. You'd have to get a 4wd tc to make it adjustable.

T-case

I Know Ill Have To Change The Case, but What Will Fit If Any..its A V-8 Are The Trans Different From The V-6...did Any Of The V-8s Come With A Part Time Case?just Curios Because The Case Thats In It Now Was Doin The Slow Speed Crunch..i Changed The Black Diesel Fuel Out Of It And Now Its Quiet..just Dont Know How Much Life Is In It And When It Dies I Want To Put A Part Time Case In It

Please take the caps lock off. If you want a part time case you are going to have to get a manual shift bw1354, which means you can't have the full length console. The v6 and v8 have different transmissions, but the t case bolt circle is the same. You will need a new front driveshaft made, as well as a shift linkage, shifter, and trim ring, and I'm sure a few other things.

If the bolt pattern for the transfer case is the same, why can't he use the control trac transfer case with a manual switch to engage and disengage it?

-Joe

edit: Oh, wait..... nevermind,..... no way to get it in and out of low range without a manual lever in place of the motor, or some fancy PCB to engage/disengage it via the motor...... Manual is the way to go.

-Joe

I don't think that the bolt pattern is the same. Nor the output shaft on the transmission. I beleive that is why advanced adapters makes a 5" or 4"(can't remember) 4r70w to bw1354 and you need a new output shaft for the 4r70w transmission, which requires the removal of the transmission to be put in. Section525 went this way I think.

Thanks for posting this link Sloxploder. I researched all options for several years, and now have a perfect setup using all bolt on parts. This thread here is turning into a re-hashing of information found in my swap thread. Please read the ENTIRE thread, and then post any questions in it. I don't claim to be an expert, but as someone who has completed the swap you desire, there is a lot of mis-information in this thread already.

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. Must have been a tad too early  I must have been thinking about swapping a bw1354 into a 2nd gen v6.
