I bought an older 1990 Ford Ranger XLT and it makes a ticking sound when you drive it until I lift lightly up on the automatic shifter handle. Then it stops. Not sure if its a minor noise nuisance or the sign of something starting to develop??? Can it be an adjustment problem ? The truck has under 80,000 miles and sat for years.:

Not enough information to give a good answer, could be a lifter, something loose most anything.
