I'm currently working on a way to alter the facotry running boards into make shift rock sliders. I like the look of the factory running boards. They finish off the look of my Sport Trac. I think they would be durable enough to make into rock sliders. I would just have to alter they way they mount up. I want to keep the factory mounts in place on the inside of the rockers. I'm working on building weld on brackets to the factory barackets that would tie into the frame somehow. If anyone has actually done this or has any questions, comments, or ideas, please let me know?!

Appreciate the link but that won't work...

I appreciate that link to the rock sliders on the explorer, however, something like that won't work for me. I have a different style of running board. If you follow this link you can see what style I have.

Obviously mine are completly different and now that I saw that picture of the other Explorer with the running board bashed in, I'm not sure my idea is going to work... It looks like they will colapse too easily. I guess I was thinking they were a little heavier gauge steel. Back to the drawing board I guess...

You need to re-enforce them obviously. The stock guard dont hold up to much.

Now if you look at Gerralds truck he did that exact thing, yes they are slightly different than yours but the idea is the same, keep the factory look while making them very stout.
