I appreciate all the help which the link below provided me to locate the problem and find a way to create a temporary fix. I could not actually see the lever without the aid of a mirror but was fairly easy to locate while clicking. The lever is to the left of the glove compartment door but hidden behind the section of the dash where the door hooks on to prevent the door from falling.

The temporary fix involves turning the heat up to high then pulling the lever towards the rear of the car which will stop the clicking noise.
Anyone who tried this knows when you turn off the car, the lever returns back to the cold position and the stripped gear can not move it.
Once you have the lever pulled towards the rear of the car, cut a good quality car wash sponge (about 4" by 6" by 2" thick) into 2 or 3 pieces then stuff each piece in the dash to hold the lever in the rear position.
To make sure it worked, with the car running briefly turn the heat control from hot to cold. It should start clicking but as soon as you turn it back to hot, the clicking should go away.
I turned off the car, then took it for a ride and still had good heat.
Leave the temperature control on hot and put a few pieces of tape over it so no one will play with it until you get a chance to put in the new actuator.
Hope this helps someone.
