Am trying to replace alternator on a 2000 xlt 5.0 v8. I cannot seem to locate the tensioner that the service manual speaks of. I have been able to release serp. belt by loosening the pulleys but serp. belt won't go on?? help!!
There should be a sticker on the header panel. This will have the locations of the tensioner in a pic and tell you which way it needs to turn to get the belt back on.
It looks like just another pulley except it moves when you torque it with the right sized socket. Passenger side, below your alternator. As others have said, review the sticker for location. If I can find it (bad mechanic here), anyone should be able to.
It takes a thin 3/8" long ratchet or breaker bar to loosen. See it below the alternator, the large pulley? Ignore the fact that this is an Aussie GT40 302 engine, the accessories are basically the same.
