I have a 92 XLT 4.0/v6. The original alternator is a 95 amp which Ford offered a 130 amp in 93, with 130 amp being standard after that...Can a 130 amp alternator be ran on a 95 amp system? If it can, what modifications if any to the electrical system would there be? I guess the big question is will the 130 amp alternator fry the system...Thanks

Welcome to this forum! Your alternator will not fry your system. It will only supply what is necessary. You could even put in a 200 amp alternator. It is not supplying 200 amps all of the time, just when it's under a load. The regulator controls your voltage going to the rotor. It cuts out when it reaches a predetermined threshold level. Some systems (like the GM CS series for example) vary the duty cycle of the voltage applied to the rotor. Don't get that confused with normal cycling like on a standard alternator. The duty cycle on those is part of a pulse train of long, and short pulses, not just a steady on, and off signal. In other words, the duty cycle is another way of saying that it is modulated (just like the EPC, and TCC solenoids of a 5R55E transmission).

Thanks for your help...I do have a brand new F150 alternator sitting around...all connectors match up and the mounting bolts and housing line up...would this be a quick way to fix or just buy a replacement from the parts store. The alternator came off an 03 F150.

Only the Limited's had 130amp alt's. All other models had the 95 one. With that said you can order a 130 amp from any parts store. Just tell then it's a limited trim.
I have a 200 amp but I have lights, & a stereo so I need it. If your just stock the 130 amp will be fine. In any case you want something bigger then the 95 cause that thing just sucks.
