Do you think that will hold my system. Imgetting it installed thursday. Do u know where i might find exactly how much it gives off? Thanks for helpin me out
dan

I have a 2001 sport with about 1200watts total power. I installed a 1 farad cap. No problems what so ever. I sit in a lot of trafic and like to keep it cranked for those arround me to get annoied by. Never even see the amps drop when the bass HITS. Just get a good cap and you should be fine.

yeah, it will work. i've done plenty of installs with the stock alternator. a capacitor is a good invesment like Black Magic said. you sould be fine.

nice

nice, how much do these farad caps cost? im glad cause some people i was talking to online were llike being all negative about it and saying my alternator wouldnt cahrge and my battery would die.

I've gone through about 6 alternators since I bought the explorer, all replaced under warranty (if they only knew, ha ha ha) and all 130 amp models.
I don't know why they keep failing, couldn't be the 16 lights, the 750 watts worth of stereo equipment, the 400 amp winch, or anything like that! LOL

matt, you should try a 200 amp Stinger alt. or you could try a mean green alternator.

DaninCO, you could get a good 1 farad capacitor on ebay for under $100. dont get a cheap 16volt cap. get at least a 20volt w/24volt surge, or a 24volt w/30volt surge.
here's a link to a good cap for like $80:

thanks for tthe help.
i got another question. Im geting my car checked out on friday and tomorow im getting evertything installed, do u think they will write down that i have all that **** installed? because i know that the warranty wouldnt be good if they knew about my system.
also is it hard to install a farad cap?

an aftermarket stereo will not void the warranty.

it's easy to install the capacitor. it just takes a few minutes to charge.

o also, how much would another better alternator be for the 2k1 x sport? how much u tihink with installation?

it depends on what kind and where you get it.
a good one will cost a few hundred. but you dont really need a better alternator with the system you are installing. if you have a few hundred $$$ burning a hole in your pocket, then go for it.

probably $400-500 with installation.

chiz illin

thanks alot man, that helped me, im glad it doesnt void the warranty. That means i wont have to worry bout the alternator. I dont think ima get a new one either. The farad cap sounds good though. How do u install one of those? can i do it myself u think?

You answer mad fast. Thanks again for helpin me out.

all you will need is a multimeter to measure the voltage.
with your explorer running, measure the voltage. then when you charge the capacitor, charge it to match that voltage. it only takes a few minutes. the cap comes with the installation instructions.

**** i think ill just get it installed cause im not really good at that kinda shiz. thanks though. How much are volt meterz?

also whats a digital cap do that a non digital one doesnt? err like whats it say on the LED screen?

you can pick up a digital multimeter at wal-mart for $10.

using a multimeter is easy. set it to measure voltage. then put the red lead on the + of the car battery, and the black on the -. the display will show you the voltage.
then when you charge the cap, do the same thing to the cap to check the voltage.

the caps with the digital monitors just show the voltage, i dont think it's worth the extra money.

Make when you take your Explorer in for work you detach the faceplate or if you have a circut breaker you flip it. So the dealer won't be cranking your nice system up too loud and blow anything. I have a circut breaker and always flip it off so they don't try and "See what she's got."

i always remove the faceplate form now on. a few years ago i dropped off my Buick for a new set of tires and shocks. i went for a slice of pizza, and came back 10 minutes later. i was so pissed. two of the guys that work there were "testing" my system in the parking lot!
i never went back there again, and i always remove the face so nobody else will "test" my system without me there.
