Am I lucky? (transmission)

I have a 2000XLT with 140K on it. I bought it 2 years ago with 48K. I have never changed the transmittion fluid and i am assuming that no one else has. I have no problems with it. Reading on the site about people that had there transmission crap out at 38K miles makes me feel special. BUT i am wondering if i sould change the fluid or just jeave it alone untill the transmission starts acting up? Also does any one know how much a new transmittion it? Only the tranny i can put it in my self.

Damn! Almost 100K miles in 2 years! What the hell are you using it for, a taxi?
If it seems to work fine leave it alone. Changing the fluid could lead to problems. New complete tranny is anywhere from $800-1500 for the unit. A rebuild is chaeper if you can pull the tranny yourself.
