am I stupid? tire size help.

ok so I am running on 235/17 16 Michelin tires and they are getting worn. I looked at the max tire size but I don't understand it. I also tried googling some stuff but I still don't know. What is the max tire size I can have? I have a 1996 Ford Explorer Sport with no lift. Thanks.

That's not a tire size- It is probably 235/70 16

The max is 265/75 R16 with TT and shackles and trimming.

255/70 16 is a good size if you don't want to trim. It came stock on my 01.
