Well as some of you know I work in construction, and work in traffic lanes on a regular basis. The emergency flashers in my 07 super duty and 97 explorer don’t cut it. I was wondering does anyone make amber strobe bulbs that I could splice in to my emergency flasher wiring. And yes I have seen the ones that have the ballast thing and you run your own wires. I just think it would be a nicer and cleaner if the bulb had the relay in them. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Auto Zone used to sell strobe kits- you drill a 1/2" hole in the housing and put the strobe in- The ballast is nice and small. Best of all, they are only ~$10 a set.

No Good

They will be a violation unless a permit is obtained. Not that big of a deal. I believe the form can be obtained from DMV, maybe even online. They are signed off by your local Chief of Police. I issued them weekly for all of the area construction and garbage trucks using them as aux. warning.

In cal I don’t think you need a permit, my low bed truck has them and so does the trailer it pulls. We get inspected by the chp all the time; I’ll have to check with them. Thanks for the info though.

Wheelen makes a small led light bar in amber that works great! Give me a min and I'll find a link( insert elevator music here)

Permits

My experience was in NJ. CA may not need one. Not harm in checking. Might aviod problems later on....

I have clear strobe lights in the amber part of my tail lights and they flash amber because of the lense. Thats going to be the best way, the auto zone ones are crap. What about an amber magnetic light that you put on your roof?

You can get the front and rear marker light strobes that are good and bright for around 200 on ebay.

Yeah i have one of the magnetic lights it has a cord that plugs into the cig lighter and i hate it.

Whelen, federal signal, sho-me, etc make colored strobe tubes. Exactly as the clear ones but colored. I have a set of blue ones in my marker lights.

And don't but from galls. They are WAY overpriced. Google a brand, then find their online distributors.

Lights

I checked out a recent DPS Auction here in Texas, and found a few of the actual flasher/strobes that they use in the Trooper cars here. They were going for $20 bucks for the whole set-up. Too bad I didn't pick up a few...I'll check back again next month when they have another Auction. Anyway...that's another option that you might want to look into.

Just run amber colored stobes in your reverse lights or clear strobes in your brake lights/turn signals in the rear.. I would also recommend some sort of light on the rear window of your pickup or Explorer. Most people I've dealt with ignore the stobes on the highway unless you have enough to make them go into seizures :D

I have strobe lights mounted under roof rack, they also are high mount turn signals

I have been meaning to complete the bar, but have not yet. I wired them up myself, they are not a kit anywhere, but I am just using clearance lights. Does anybody know what the laws on strobe lights/auxiliary lights like these is in WI?

Look up your state law statues. There should be a link somewhere on your state DMV website.
That's where Fl's are.

I am working on a new strobe bar, that will be mounted inside on the bottom of the rear glass. I will try to post pics when done

check out AWDirect, they specialze in tow truck stuff, which is alaso all amber lighting, do you want something hidden like strobes in your head/taillights? what about a light bar?
