Got the fax, thanx for all the help. I am installing my amp right now. I'm going to run two twelves, but I have a brand new 10" free air that I would like to use to conserve on space. Any suggestions on mounting locations or custom baffleboards??
Brian, I got the fax thanks again. I've got a question though, I've got an aftermarket Sony CDX-M600 deck is there any way for me to connect it to the factory amp and subwoofer?
I can not remeber if that radio has a sub out. If it does you could use a device called a bi-lateral interface. I use the peripheril Vedetta 2 at work. This will give you the correct match between your radio and factory amp. You would hook it between the radio and the sub amp.
I hope the pin out diagram helped, the biggest problem we have at work is trying to keep up with Ford and all the different systems they put in there vehicle. I wish they were more like GM and Chrysler, they never change anything.
I tried to get away w/o a new deck too .. It sounded like total S#!+ ... I was in the same situation had an amp and sub , figured it had to sound better than stock .... Yeah right ... I went back the next day , bought a new deck , mids/hi's , and a 2nd. sub ... I wouldn't waste your time , stock will sound better ....
Free air sub do not work that great in trucks. Free air sub are designed to use the trunk of a car as the box. If you are going to put it in a box the box normally end up being very big.
I did one 4 door explorer for a guy witha 12". I builting a baffle board out of 3/4 mdf and fiberglass to cover the open area were the factory sub and amp would be. I used sound damping on the outer metal and baffle board to seal it up air tight to the truck. I made a grill were the factory pocket is and the 12" played through that.
The reason I did this was that there was no way to fit a big enough box back there that would not have cost the guy over $1000. This route only cost the guy $500.
It ended up sounding really good. It was no bass monster but that was not what the guy wnted.
On my former truck I had built a fiberglass box back there and had a 12" Diamond Audio MacDaddy bach there and it was run by a Xtant 600 watt amp.
I spliced that convertor in and ran my wires and hooked up my amp. For some reason my amp won't turn on. I am pretty sure that the Pos. and Neg. have good connections and I have the remote wire spliced into the Ign. wire. I am stumped. At this point it's becoming more of a hassle than it's worth.
Still having problems. I was wondering about how your install was going. I just did a 97 for a sub amp install with a sigle solo 12. This radio had 3 plugs. 1 for the speaker outputs, 1 for the CD changer and 1 for the power. Did you use a meter to confirm the ignition wire. Are you sure you had only 2 plugs.
Brian,
While I was looking at the fax you sent it dawned on me that me factory deck has three plugs and the fax you sent only had a layouts for two. Do you have anything on the third plug? I'm guessing its for the changer and rear console controls.
Off the top of my head, I'm not sure of the color or pin count. I'm going to take some pictures of the plugs and wires to night, may be that will help with all the confusion.
To get crossovers to work just get an in line converter. But make sure it is high/low compatable. A word of warning dont buy them from radio shack due to low quality sound capabilities.
Now plug 1 is the only one I'm currently using, it has the power and speaker connection that I needed to hook up my deck using a wiring harness. So what are the other two plugs? I was thinking plug 2 is for the CD-changer and the rear stereo controls and the plug 3 was for the subwoofer. Do you have anything on the pin layout?
Sethro
I hope this post. I am at work and the 2nd page of the thread will not show up. I will have to check tonight at home and hope to help you get this done
I got my computer working again.
Sethro do your plugs look like the picture to. If not could you post a picture of them to.
Dave I will be sending you another fax for your plugs. The only info I have on plug 2 is for power ant and dimmer.
Pin 2 would be the antenna and pin 10 would be the radio dimmer lead.
