I was reading sticky at the top of the page and I thought it said that the amp was in the headunit for the 2000 Premium model year. I thought it had a separate amp in the rear trunk panel. So is there an amp there or no amp. This will make a big difference in the ease of installation if I add a new Headunit.
Thanks for your responses in advance.

I believe the amp is built into the receiver starting '98 model year. Cobrajeff can answer your question, he's one of the engineers for the stock system.

In 1998, the main amplifier circuitry was moved back inside the head unit. The only external amp would be a Subwoofer amp. The Subwoofer amp would only come with the Ford/MACH Audio System. If you have a storage bin in the RR qtr trim, then you DO NOT have a MACH system, and you do not have a factory Subwoofer.

I have the MACH system with sub in the back and amp mounted to the sub box.

Replaced the amp with aftermarket along with an 8" RF sub...difference was incredible.

Cobrajeff,
The 2000 would be the same as the 98 right? Soo if I want to instal another hu, All I have to do is buy the appropriate wiring harness and I am away to the races!
Great thanks for the info,
Rob
