the amp is currently wired to the battery with a wire kit and the remote is hooked up to the headunit. since its wired to the battery it continues to draw current when the car is off.what do i need to do to have the amp turn off when the car is off so i dont kill my battery as it sits? thanks

Hook the remote on your HU to a source that's only on when the car is on, or turn off your HU when you exit the car so that it turns the amp off...

How much does it draw?
Mine is hooked up but i don't think it draws very much.

I also have an enable wire behind the headunit, with my '04 its used to turn on the SubWoofer Amp, but its only 6v. My sub amp also does not work with the 6v but it also supports speaker level inputs and when it picks up the signal it turns on automatically which is what i'm using now.

even when the HU is turned off the light on the amp still stays on. what would be the easiest source to wire the amp to? i could do a toggle switch or something to turn the amp on and off, id rather not do that though

im not sure how much it draws, but i know that ive let it sit for a weekend and on monday morning to go to work the battery was dead:mad: that was a different amp than the one ive got now though, but im pretty sure it will do the same thing

You don't have the remote wire hooked up right if the amp stays on. It goes to the blue wire on your headunit, assuming an aftermarket headunit.

it is an aftermarket headunit, im pretty sure its going to the blue wire, but i go check, thanks

just checked, and the remote is wired to the blue w/ white strip on the headunit, im gona swap them and hopefully that fixes that, thanks:thumbsup:

well wired it to the solid blue wire on the HU and now the amp doesnt turn on at all:confused: so the blue/white stripe must be the right wire? thoughts

do you have a volt meter? I'd test to be sure as maybe the color scheme is different with your HU.

Blue is the usual one, and all of the HU's I've seen lately have a sticker on each wire, or printed on the wire itself, where it goes to, you can try that as well, if it's just printed off you might have missed it, my amp turns off as soon as I open the door, I have left the truck for 1 week and I came back and it turned on with no issues, so that shouldn't be happening to yours because of the amp

I agree that either something isn't hooked up right, or something is messed up. It shouldn't be the blue/white wire; I think that's usually for a power antenna hookup. Solid blue is almost always your remote turn-on lead.

You can tap into any switched lead in your vehicle. It doesn't have to be the head unit. Just tap into a wire that is hot when your ignition is in the ACC position, and off when it's off. If you aren't getting enough juice to turn on the amp (it shouldn't take much), or if you are worried about drawing too much from the original accessory, just add a relay.

tap into the power antenna, or the wiper motor wire off the switch.

Doesn't the power antenna only work when the radio is on? what if he wants to listen to CD's?

Hey guys Im a master installer and own my own shop. In Canada and the USA the blue/white is the standard color for the remote turn on. The blue wire is the standard color for the antenna. Now I have seen some cheap no name units off ebay use a blue wire for both the remote turn on and antenna. If your head unit has both blue and blue/white, then for sure its the blue/white wire. In order to narrow down the problem your need to do some testing and see if its the head unit or the amp. Leave the remote turn on wired to the head unit and remove it from the amp. Now use a multimeter and see what it does. It goes without saying there should be voltage there with car on and nothing with the car off. If that checks out then you may have a short in your amp. If the remote turn on has power either way its no problem just use an acc or an ign wire. You can use bulldog security to easily find a suitable wire. I hope this helps!

make sure your headunit is shutting off when you turn your car off also....if it is staying on then most likely it is wired wrong, and that will keep the blue/white wire powered....make sure red is going to an accesory wire, and yellow goes to constant 12v....not both of them to 12v.

You are totally correct. Not sure what I was thinking.
