So, I wired up a 300 watt amp that can be bridged and a 12" Bazooka woofer in a box. It worked for a little while, about 30 minutes, and now it won't work at all. While the speaker was on, it didn't thump as loud as I thought it would and there was a popping sound coming from the woofer. The amp is on, I have it wired through the "high-level" input. I will buy a line-level to rca converter this weekend but I'm wondering if it's possible if I screwed up the speaker in some way.

Any idea's?

If your sound and HU are working and there is NO SOUND then its probally a ground. Turn everything off, and fix it by sanding the metel, or screwing the cable down more, whatever works. Also check out you inline fuse, check it if its blown, or if its not located at least 18" from the battery, the closer the better. Then check out your amps fuse. Last check out your wiring for the sub, make sure its not pulling a larger load then the amp can take.

I can tell that the amp is on since the red power light is on. The problem seems to be the woofer not getting the sound. BTW, I only have the speaker wire coming from the left rear door speaker. Should I be running it from the right side also?

if you say it's not 'thunmping' as hard you might need to adjust your gain control, also i would check your ground too, it's a very common problem with "i installed it myself" audio problems.

True, but it's installed properly. I've done it at least 20 times. This is the first I ever hooked up an amp in an Explorer so I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Usually I install it and and works so I'm at a loss here.

what kinda amp? What ohm sub? That would help.

First off if you could i would bridge it. Its different on every amp but most you take teh + from one side and the - from the other. second did you adjust the gains to the new head unit? That could be the problem.

No new head unit. Everything is stock except this amp and sub. I have the gain about halfway and I do have it bridged. I'm going to buy a line level/rca converter this weekend and see what happens after that.

to tune your gain tune up your head unit 3/4 of the way up and then turn the gain until the subs distort. If this doesn't help how do you have the remote turn on hook up? is the ground metal to metal? Ground wire shorter then 18"? you have big enough power wire? can your amp handle that ohm load? Or is that ohm load to high so your amp isn't pushing out that much power to it. Can you hook up a friends amp up in your car to test your car? Sorry i rambled on but thats pretty much all teh stuff i would do to find out the problem.

Great, thanks for the ideas. I just printed it out and I'll check it all this weekend.
