I'm going to install a stealth box and 10" sub powered by a mono amp in my X. As of now I think I'm going to build the box.

The goal is to fill in the bass and get a cleaner sound. I don't need any bass that'll blow out the windows or anything. I don't want to break the bank either. I want something mid-range price wise that's decent quality and reliable. I'm going to run it from my factory HU for now. I know you all will say replace the HU but for now that's what I'm going to use. I like the factory look plus it's CD+Cassette which I like and would be expensive to replace with an aftermarket HU. But should I replace the HU with a mid-range after market unit I still want the Amp/Sub to be decent.

What are some recommendations for mono amps in the $200 range? This is one I was thinking about.

Also what would be some recommendations for a 10" sub? Something in the $100 range, of course it has to be for a sealed enclosure. Maybe something like this one:

What about a sub/amp combo? They seem to be more bang for the buck. This one?

Or this one?

On this one I would use only one sub. How good are these being in combos?

Thanks for any input.

in the back of my explorer i have 2 12" orion subs, in a box that i built, a 760 watt pioneer amp, with a pioneer hu, its nothing fancy, but i can rattle my windows, it has a clear deep tone to it, and it was a cheap system, i dont think you have to spend big bucks to get a good soundin system..

1st stay away from crutchfield- they are way over priced.

I have done this mod, I have bought a JL 10" put it is a stealth box, powered by a Soundstream "lil wonder". Unfortunaltly this amp has been dicontinued. But if you want to see where I installed it, check out the link at bottom.

i found crutchfield to be very useful. i used it to research everything i got. i have 2 12s, sometimes i think it takes up too much room but when i want bass i sure have it. anyway crutchfield was very useful for research, and then i ordered my stuff from etronics.com. great great site.

Etronics was a reliable site? They do have good prices. What kind of a HU brand is Pyle? Pretty crappy, I've never heard of them before and their prices seem awful cheap?

Profile amps aren't bad, I've got one powering my Infinity 10.1d they're nothing fancy but they get it done. Sometimes I wonder if its really putting out as much power as it should, and then other times I wonder if it just doesnt sound loud outside my truck because of the truck.

A little 6 1/2" sub will probably sound odd, and not have the depth. It might sound kinda like a popping instead of a booming.

If you want to stealth mount it, I'd shoot for something with a top mount depth of under 5". My 10.1 has a top mount depth of 5 3/4" and it was just not going to fit behind the panel in a box without being mounted on on some rings to push it up from the back. The little baskety piece has a ring around the back of it that takes up like 1/3" or so of your space back there. I ended up just putting my baskety thing back in and just going with a normal box.

If I was starting all over from the beginning again, I'd probably use this.

It's a decent sub, the 8" size means it'll fit in the area nicer than the 10" I was trying to shove in.

But being that you're not from as hot and humid a place as me you can get away with not having rubber surrounds. So I'd go for this one.
