I was reading the explorer4x4 website's article about adding an auxiliary and actually being able to jump yourself if your one battery ever died.

The article on the site really confused me and I did a search here and I did not find much about doing this project. Has anyone one here ever put in another battery? I would really like to know how to do this!

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Donner, thank you for the link that will help a ton!

I Just have one other question: Is it possible to jump start yourself if one battery doesn't have enough charge? I've heard of guys doing that with like switches in their cabs, that true?

Hmm... I don't know. I carry a charger with me...

There are some battery isolators that will let you do that.. They can disconnect the batteries, connect them together (to jump start) or run in isolation mode.

I know with the solenoid method you can just use jumper cables to connect the two positives together and give yourself a jump. The negatives are already tied together.

Get a system with an isolator that does all that for you. When the car is running, both batteries are connected and being used (and charged). When you shut it off, it disconnects them and only draws off one battery. If that goes dead, when you start the car, the isolator connects both batteries and uses the alternate battery power.
