Found this when I went to change the diff gasket that was leaking. Dropped the spare to have more room and found this.


The rest of the truck really has no rust but above the spare tire was nothing but rest.

Just look at the rear shackles.

That's the carbon canister, don't remove it.
Shackles are in urgent need of replacement. Also, shocks might be a good ideea to be replaced now (they don't look to "happy" either, they should last some 60-80k miles).
And tires look really bald too...

Well I want to replace them so should I just find some used one?

And I got rims and tires sitting in the garage that are going on it. Also got some bilstin shock waiting to be put on.

Check Amazon, Rockauto, Motorcraft sites... Avoid cheap ones, besides obvious suspension duty, it also "holds" the rear from flying sideways in turns.
You didn't say what year and type of Ex.

Where is this rust stuff you speak of? Rust is just that nice brown paint type color we get on bare metal when we are too lazy to paint it. That stuff you guys are showing looks like textured paint to me..
