my 04 does the same thing.. I have yet to figure it out

idk the answe either... but i think you can rule out the cold...

cause he said he had the same issue, and he lives in florida...

its been 25 every night there this week and i just noticed it again...

I have had the same issue sense I bought my 2003. I just did a quick fix for it, turn up the radio and the sound disappears. lol mine sounds like its from the inside of the vehicle is yours from the outside or inside?

Its so random its hard to say.
When I do hear it, I say to the any passengers in the back seats "Did you hear that squeak?" and they usually reply "What squeak?"

And then trying to reproduce it is impossible.

I have the same issue has any one come to fix this anoying noise

I used to think it was the AC compressor cutting in, but the sound definitely comes from the rear. Outside too.

The only thing I can figure is a bushing on the rear end?
The slip yoke in the drive shaft?
Hand brakes stuck for a bit?

Its just one high pitched short squeak

Yup some one has to have found the problem

I thought maybe something on the spare tire brackets since thats a heavier piece back there. But it comes and goes randomly so i dont know how to diagnose it

Nope not back tire i have removed all that from under my x

I dont have a spair tire mount its almost like the drive train or some thing

possibly a recal part that hasn't been recaled yet but doesn't sound super common

this happen to my 04 x (hot pics soon)

it turns out the abs on x's break alot, with the piece still in hub. i bet its either that, or sumthing in rear hub assembly.

get some one to take the back wheels and rotters if need be

i'm starting to hear it in the front right my x:rolleyes:

I dont think its abs sensor or hubs.
If that were the case Id hear the squeak all the time.

Its just quick "squeak" after you leave from a stop,
could be 20 - 100 ft after you start. You wont hear it again until another stop.
For my Explorer it usually only happens after the truck has sat for a while.

I agree you'd here it more often if it was abs and it is after stops and i've noticed it twice after a speed bump in the parking lot. Possible suspension i suppose?

I think I found it.
If I turn off the AC with the push button, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on... SQUEAK!

Now is it the belt? compressor? AC clutch?

Wondering if spraying WD40 or something like that on the compressor is a good idea or not...
Thought about belt dressing but Ive never had any good results with that in the past.

I'm reading this thread thinking about the squeak my belt makes a lot of times when the transmissions shifts, but it seemed like everyone figured it was out back. But yeah, mine does that too, but only when he AC is on. I figure it's just the belt, and I guess it's a fairly normal condition, so I'm not too worried about changing it yet...
