after spinning a truly riotous Brody last night (was so fast the centrifugal force on the break fluid forced half of it out of the reservoir) my airbag light started flashing, the code is 1-2. I searched around the forums and couldn't find 1-2. 98 explorer sport v6 OHV.

is there a site with a list of all the codes?

forgot to add, after the 1-2 code flashes 3 times the light just stays on.

I also have this problem on my 93. It means that there was intermittent low voltage going to the air bag circuit. The only difference on mine is that it keeps flashing, and doesn't stay on all of the time. Check this link for a description on air bag codes: http://veryuseful.com/. I know that the link is for the Mustang, but the codes should be the same.

any ideas what could be causing that? I checked all the fuses and they're good.

I'm not exactly sure, but it is usually from an intermittant low voltage surge going into the air bag system. You could either check the voltage going to the module to see if it is normal, or you could try disconnecting the battery, waiting 10 minutes to clear the code, then carefully reconnect the battery with all of the accessories off. You could also pull out the fuse for the air bag system, and then reconnect it in 10 minutes so the engine computer doesn't have to relearn everything. Most air bag computer code problems are from a bad module, bad clock spring in the steering column, bad ignitor for the air bag, or bad sensors. You wouldn't find anything about air bag system repair in a regular repair manual that you could buy at any auto parts store. You have to look in an actual Ford repair book, or on a Ford CD. If you don't have a Ford CD, you could download one from WWW.FordCDs.Com. The manufacturers of automobiles don't recommend the average do it yourselfer making repairs on air bag systems, because they could deploy, and possibly cause injuries.

good read on that link but it doesnt go into any detail on the clockspring?? like when should it be replaced?? only when it goes bad?? They also say not to re-use airbags that dont deploy in the accident in one part of the article but later on say that they can be re-used if they dont deploy only because the system may not have needed to trigger them...

damn confusing if you ask me.

how do you check the clockspring out?? basically the way that article explains it...the clockspring has no effect on anything other than to hook the steering wheel to the steering column in proper orientation so it should be re-useable even if the bags pop right?

If your horn, and steering wheel mounted cruise control buttons work, then you could assume that your air bag is also making contact from the electrical connections which are provided from the clockspring connections.
