Ok, thanks for all the input on the hubs folks. NOW, after finding out the radio is just dead and everything else related back to a fuse and the only thing it all has in common is that nifty Wal-Mart or U-Haul 'inline' trailer wiring "T" connector. It's the same one you see everywhere that snaps inline with the brakelight harness. Well, under the back is a factory towing harness with a small plug on it as described in the link you guys gave me. Unfortunately I cannot locate the proper adapter plug from my dealer or Uhaul. Web page said $35 from Ford. My dealer says (after mumbling that I should call UHaul and searching a book for 9 minutes) $125. That's about $65 a foot. Now what? Anyone know where to pick up a cable that clips into the factory harness and terminates in 4 conductor flat?
thanks,
Randy

you have the towing package!! :)

that adapter is always on sale @on www.ebay.com for like $10 USD

Exactly... geez, I hate the first month of a 'new' used vehicle. The previous owner has put that walmart thing in there and I didn't realize till now that is what the problem is.... factory harness is tucked right where it should be.. never touched. <sigh> City Folk. What's wrong with people???? :)
thanks for the tip. I'll go check out ebay now. Dealer and Uhaul have come up blank anyway....
thanks,
Randy

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Got one, ($14 buy it now... Oh, well.... I'm not going to complain!)
Maybe I should stop viewing eBay as just a place to sell and maybe check on buying stuff every now and again! :)
thanks again!
Randy

Wiring harness on 99 Explorer

You say wiring harness is right where it should be. Please tell me where it is. Wiring my brother's and don't have a lot of time with his vehichle. Is it underneath the spare tire? Or somewhere in the bumper? Thanks

On my '94 it was where it should be. YOU MUST have the towing package from the factory for the wires to be there. If you have the towing package, the harness is located under the rear bumper, folded neatly and fastened to the frame on either the left (where mine was) or on the right. Can't miss it, it's the only harness bundle between the frame and bumper! Check owner's manual to be sure, though and good luck!
