I was just watching the 6pm news and a story came on that caught my eye....

A lady driving her child in her EXPLORER today had the steering wheel come completely off the column.

Ford, in their infinite wisdom, refused to comment.

Whats next?

hmm thats pretty scary
pretty soon the whole engine is gonna just fall out

if this keeps up, there won't be a ford motor company.
i'm scared to buy a new ford. i'll probably buy a tahoe or grand cherokee. i still plan on keeping my 92 X. i figure if it had any major defects, they would've happened by now.

At least you will still be able to steer it off the road.

Then Ford will release a statement saying that, "the engine dropped out when the driver bumped into that curbing so that it wouldn't enter the passenger compartment, thus endangering the occupants. This is a built-in safety mechanism."

thats funny because that is what hyundai told my friend when a car hit the front drivers side of his accent, and his engine fell out (destroyed the engine, trans, axle, etc..) and totalled his car. the car that hit him was a little mercury tracer the was turning and didnt see him, so it wasn't going very fast. if the engine didnt drop, he would probably still have the car.

Ford is starting to disappoint me, they are starting to dig their own grave. But Dodge is having the same problem, we have a recall notice on the steering column on our Dodge minivan, tends to separate from the rest of it wile driving. Dodge ahs ahd its share of recalls, just things like seats, etc. Things that cant really cause damage if they fail.

Its not just Ford. Welcome to the sleezy world of big business....

i have a buddy that is an engineer at ford. he works on the dash stuff right now with the designers there. it was interesting to hear the stuff he said about the expedition, explorer, ranger, and f150 (all of which he works on). he made comments on the extensive range of "problems" that they all have but its considered normal. things like center of gravities, weight issues, and other seeming very important stuff. kinda made me worry, but he has an f-150 despite that so i figured it can't be too bad :) of course, he does get any ford vehicle at production cost. he said chevy and dodge have just as many problems.

Ford is not alone!! It was just announced that Chrysler is going to recall all 95 and up Cherokees because apparently they jump from park to reverse for on apparent reason.
My brother owns a 2001 Tahoe (less than 30K)and was complaining about the steering being loose. upon further inspection the steering assembly was replaced apparently this is some what common, according to the GM Mech.
Hmmm... I wonder if these trucks had Firestone tires?
