Alright, my explorer makes some really loud, hollow sounding bangs when i am making a right turn, kinda fast, like second gear turn. I thought it was my nerf bars i had made, so i took those off and it wasn't them. So i thought that maybe my CV shaft was bad because i new that it was the drivers side, so i buy one of those and it wasn't that either. I have new upper and lower BJ's, new sway bar links, new shocks. I have no idea what is banging. I've noticed for a while now that the my explorer is sitting ****eyed on level ground. Could i have something wrong with a torsion bar on the driver side that could be shifting when it's leaning to the left? I can't move it with my hands so i figured it wasn't bad. Help would be greaty appriciated because i'm suppose to take it out in the morning!! Thanks

Happy trailes!

Try jacking it up with a floor jack under the lower control arm to see if you can duplicate the noise.

Check your swaybar and make sure the end links are tight. Also check your shocks. Look around and see if you can find evidence of anything hitting or rubbing on something.

Man, that's what the ford guy told me too and i tried it. I really am baffled about this. We went for a long trail ride saturday, about 70 miles, and it still did it. At least it isn't something that is effecting my 4x4 or anything like that.....yet. The front end guy over at ford comes back from vacation on wednesday, so i'll hopfully find out something then. I'll let you know!

Check the contact patch (I think it's Kevlar) for the driver's side torsion bar. It's what the rear end of the torsion bar sits on and pivots on (sort of). I've read around here that they wear through sometimes and make a sound similar to the one you are describing. Check to see if it has worn through or is broken up. It makes sense that it would happen on the driver's side during a right hand turn since that wheel is feeling a lot of force during the turn.

Stephen, i looked at the torsion bar, but i didn't look that close. I'll have to take a look tomorrow. I guess i'm going to have to take the cover off right? Now biggy. I did notice that the noise has went away somewhat. Ever since my 4wheeling trip on saturday it has been quieter. Last night i was changing tires back to my ATs and i noticed that the top bushing of my sway bar links on the passenger side was ripped off, but that wasn't causing my. Got it fixed though. And i did notice that my gas tank skip plate was hanging a little lower for some reason and that when i hit on it, it made a noise similar to what i was hearing, so i stuck a piece of rubber hose between the tank and the plate, just to see what happened, but no luck. I'll check the torsion bar again and let you know, thanks again!

Man, sounds like you've given your underbody some hell lately. I would say that the swar bar bushing would have surely been making the noise, but since you said you fixed it and the noise is still there, it might still be the torsion bar. I don't think that you have to remove the cover in order to see the contact patch, but in order to "inspect" it, you might have to. All that holds it on are just a couple of bolts anyway huh? Well, I hope that you find out what's causing it.
