:dunno: few days ago i go to get in my 99 explr, and it wouldnt start, wouldnt even take a jump start, i go through all the checks, and nothing, no hidden codes, for some reason i check the air filter, and it seemed clean, then i banged on the bumper to clear some dust, some did come out but not much, anf after i put back in , it went and started up, and ran fine for two days, until this morning it did it again, :wtf:, so of course first thing was to check for another dusty filter,and of course nothing :confused2::censored::confused2: , it does have over 212,000 miles on it and there is a blown head gasket but i put aluma seal in it until i can afford to fix it , it has ran for a week or so as so with no problems till it wouldnt start :dunno:

If it’s dusty maybe the MAF is dirty?
Just spitballing here

also wont there be a MAF code? Circuit Low. P0102 is a very common trouble code . It means the the Mass Air Flow (MAF) circuit is low, and that it is not performing within its specified operating range.

is there a way to clean it

yeah it’s pretty easy to clean one. As far as codes, maybe?
I feel like sometimes codes are triggered and sometimes not in my experience

@Polardogg

Are you working on a 4.0 OHV or 4.0 SOHC?

Just askin' 'cause your signature says "94 & 98 Explorer" and your Opening Post says you're working on a '99 Explorer.

Classic fuel pump IMO
Next time hit the tank with your hand then start it

@Polardogg

donalds offers up good/no cost to you advice.

I will add this additional question since you threw it out there;
How long has your Ex been using coolant BEFORE putting the "Aluma seal" in it a week ago?

Also, have you marked your coolant overflow tank with a witness line, and carefully watched the level. Meaning - are you still using coolant?

Listen for a whirring sound from the gas tank filler tube with gas cap off when turning key on. If no noise, the pump may be gone. On my 95 I had to drop the tank to replace You may have an access panel. May also want to check fuel filter, it may be clogged. Also, you mentioned some sealant used on head gasket. A simple compression check of the cylinder pressure should confirm, but it probably would start if one of the cylinders was low on pressure. Fuel, air or spark. Its gotta be one of those... or some electrical connection/switch.

First - replace the fuel filter. Tip: use the two-finger fuel-line plastic type where you can pull with your forefinger and index finger; the single-finger kind rarely works. Personally I use the metal scissors style. Even if you have a weak fuel pump, replacing the filter may help.

Second - listen for the fuel pump. It will spin up for about two seconds after you turn on the ignition.and then stop, I can usually hear it inside with windows closed; otherwise pull off the gas cap and have someone turn the key to ignition, but not all the way to start.

Third - I don't know if the Gen 3 (2001 and up) and up have an access plate. My three Gen 2 ('96, '96, and '00) I had to pull off skid pan and lower fuel tank, and then pull off left rear tire off to get to the fuel pump. I'm going to cut out an access panel on my '00, the pump is even with the front edge of left inside wheel wheel and about two inches to the center.

The entire pump assy (metal frame, float, and variable resistor) from Ford is over $500 at O'Reillys. The pump motor only about $100, and the kit with filter boot about $120. My resistor was tarnished and a light rub with an easier burnished up. I'm guessing at the prices as I have a commercial account and my price is usually half the street price.
