Hey all. I've got a question on the Mac Intake (like there isn't enough of them on this website :) ). People here have their own different opions on installing this intake. Some say they notice a difference and some say they don't. I was just reading another post that stated that you should install the intake and then disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, reconnect it, start the vehicle and let it idle for 5 -10 minutes, and then be on your way.

First off, I'm not sure if this is stated in the install instructions, if not, is this something that needs to be done so that the Explorer's computer can reconfigure itself with the new intake and more air being let in?

Also, can this be a reason why some people don't notice a difference...because they didn't perform this step.

Is this step even required?

Any help would be appreciated. All this stuff is helping me determine if I should purchase the intake. I have a 2000 4 door 4x4 XLT white 4.0L SOHC V6. Anyone who has the Mac on their similar vehicle, please let me know what you think.

Thanks to all that respond!!!

Joe

Exactly. Disconnecting the battery forces the computer to 're-learn' the A/F ratio, idle, etc. This actually will make it change instantly as if automatically reconfigures itself every XXXX miles or months or something. :D

I'm thinking that if someone didn't clear the computer after the mod they wouldn't see the instant difference the part just made because it would gradually adjust over time. But I am no EEC-V expert by any means.
