Problem: When we stop the vehicle and try to put it in park, most of the time it the indicator says P but the vehicle will still roll, sometimes with a clicking sound and to start it, we have to shift into N. If we pull up on the shifter a couple times forcefully, it will then go into park and not roll and will start as it should in park. Sometimes we have to go down into 1 or 2 and all the way back up to park for it to engage.

Other then that, it shifts fine into R, N, D and drives just fine. I saw a thing on here about the thumb wheel to adjust the cable, that is not the problem. From what I gather, seems to be something with the parking pawl, but if that was bent or broken, then it wouldn't engage at all right?

Is there something else I can try other then taking it to a transmission shop?

thanks in advanced!
