I finally got the time to park my ExplorerSport and pull the engine out of the Ranger...I am going to install this engine into the Sport and use a 4R70W behind it but keep it 2WD...I am also going to use the ECU/harness from another 99 Explorer but that came from an AWD drivetrain...

What does the ECU look for on the AWD tranny/transfer case that I will need to disable or have turned off in an ECU tune to run without the check engine light coming on?

I was looking at the transfer case and I thought all the connections from there were going to one of the body modules and not the trans harness...Please correct me if I am wrong...

You don't need to change anything as long as you are using a v8 harness. The AWD transfer case is purely mechanical, and the VSS on a 99 is on the rear axle. There are really no differences with the 2wd and 4wd 4r70w other than the output housing.

If you are using a v6 harness, all the stuff from the transfer case goes to the body modules for the 4wd controls, and a signal wire to the instrument cluster for the 4wd lights.
