I've been having problems with my 2000 xlt. It won't start and the theft light blinks. Wait a couple seconds flip the key around lock and unlock the doors with remote and eventually she'll start. Now yesterday it started but the anti-theft light was blinking the code 1-6. Any ideas what the code means? What could be the problem? I'm waiting for the day it won't start.

What do you mean by "Flash Code"?

I mean it was flashing a code 1-flash pause and then 6-flashes. It did this maybe 5-6- times before the light went off

According to my repair CD, the most likely cause the "theft" light flashing a code is either a faulty Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) link, or a incorrectly calibrated (or faulty) Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This, unfortunately, will probably be close to impossible to troubleshoot without an NGS tester (or equivilent).

This may be a long shot. Do you have more than 1 key? If you have 2 did you try the 2nd key to see if the problem is still there. I would try each key alone with nothing else on the keyring.

If this does not help a previous post looks like your only choice. Good luck

It does it with both keys. Eventually it will start. One time I flipped the key around and it started right up. Maybe it's getting confused somehow.

my 97 does the same. sometimes you get lucky and she fires right up and other times you have to mess with the remote....lock and unlock the doors a few times before she will start.
My dad drove it the other month and when he came back to the car it did this and he though there was something wrong with it........he was trying to jump start it......... in the end he called the tow company and the tow guy came and started it right away..... pretty funny!
