I got some weird performance right now.
My '96 x wont start...just cranks.

Started fine earlier today, but now this happens:

When I put key in, I noticed that the doors locked than unlocked.
I can't even hear the fuel pump activates :(

Is there anyone with a clue helping me out please?
RAP or fuel pump issue?

EDIT: The lock/unlock I have noticed a coulple times before, but when I tested now..they're quiet as the fuel pump.
There is spark on plugs, coile ok as well as power on electrical connector.

Thanks,
Frank

Thanks a lot guys..I will check your links.

Just one question:
Does the anti-theft system block the power to the fuel pump?

I'm pretty sure thats how it works, but perhaps you should check for voltage at the fuel pump. If you find voltage but the pump is not working, it could be the pump.

Thanks for reply.

We just checked by listening to the fuel tank, and when key in run position we hear a weak click.
I can't get the car on stands now for checking the voltage, but the click sound maybe indicates the voltage being present (?)

Check at the fuel rail to see if you have pressure when the key is on.
The PATS system does not kill the pump, it kills the injectors. Also if the pats disabled it, the Theft light will flash when the key is on. Could be the pump is stuck. I once cleared mine by reversing power to the pump. Made it run backwards for a second and its been fine for over a year.

Thanks Bob.

To bad I can't reach the pump and give it a hit.
We did a new try and a strange thing happens;
Now we heard the fuel pump start, but a weaker sound then normal...and my x almost started.
We figured low battery (12.5V) and charging atm.
Will try again as soon as battery is fully charged....but this is strange

PS: How do I check the fuel rail for pressure?

There should be a schrader valve on the fuel rail. It looks like the same type of valve found on tires. Try opening the valve with a nail or something similar while someone cranks the truck over. Use caution ... (insert long safety speech/disclaimer here) .. because you may end up with raw gasoline spewing out all over so use something to control/catch it and of course. Lets not have any tragic "gasoline blows up and destroys forum members Explorer" threads. LOL

Thanks alot my friend...I know where this valve is located, so I will give it a try tomorrow....(with big caution and hopefully be back on the board) :D
